Ben was a beautiful big rabbit. We come to expect miracles of healing in our modern high-tech medical era, but are sometimes jarringly reminded that life is a miracle, not an expectation. I guess the disciples following Jesus saw that first hand.

I try to remind myself of life's miracles often, but sometimes it's the losses that bring the message home. We don't pull the levers as deftly as we think. The breath of God is still required to maintain the miracle of life. It's His call, not ours. What a relief!

Comment From joyce

hi nora,
it's actually been a long time since i've visited your blog, but as it's the end of the year, i thought, hey, why not catch up on what other people have been up to? but i'm so sorry to find this terrible news that you're sharing. :( i just wanted to say i'm sorry and that my sympathies and thoughts are with you. i'm sure that it's so very hard, what you're dealing with. thank God for your faith in Him, and i will pray that soon you'll be on the mend. i don't have any good words right now, but i hope that you will feel better soon. i'm glad you have such good memories of your time with ben -- he is very beautiful.
take care,
joyce

Comment From hollythecat

I so enjoyed this post. Hopefully his experiences with Ben won't turn him into a big wuss or anything... and he does have a good heart and doesn't just smack Ben around for no reason. Ben will be an enormous and genteel wabbit the likes of which we've never known, but he will also be capable of kicking the ass of any three of the cats, so there's a fine line we have to walk in raising him. Ideally, he'll be like the Green Giant.

Except, mostly brown, not green. I have also finished the final version of the five page memo Dad was writing for Merrill Talpers giving a time line on relevant events in the Shaw estate. It needed to be done in a format slightly different from the one WORD was determined to use so getting it all in the right place on the pages was considerably more time and energy demanding than simply reproducing text, even considering that Dad's handwriting isn't always crystal clear, especially when he is trying to write things down as close to as quickly as he thinks them as possible.

I say luckily because I want to send my good wishes to Tucker, who looks like an especially nice kitty. I really do appreciate nice kitties even if I have usually felt the desperate need of good mousers whether or not they are simpatico. I"m sorry, Garfield, you would never have cut it in my household.

This morning I went to a funeral at Cure D'Ares (94th and Mission Road. Veda was in our small circle--94 years old and getting feebler with the years but still very much perky and alive even if she couldn't handle stairs any more, which is why she switched to our circle from the morning circle which meets in people's homes which typically involve stairs to get in. Our circle meets in the church parlor. She was strongly active in her church (where the funeral was) but just as active in her husband's' church--as well as cooking and babysitting for a large group of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren' Her favorite color was pink--at the visitation last night she was "lying in state" all in pink, surrounded by pink flowers, and holding sdomething I had not seen before--a pink string of rosary beads.

That is much more than I meant to say, I just wanted to share with you something the priest said in his remarks about the Eucharist--that it is at the fulcrum of time, simultaneously bringing both the past and the future into the present.

This somehow fits with one of the Tai Chi series of movements that we do, when our leader reminds us that we are bringing the past into the present and then bringing the future into the present.

Incidentally, I did do better this time than last, although there are some puzzles about it--I have always, even currently, been relatively good at balancing on one foot, but I absolutely could not manage "the stork" the first time and I was only marginally better yesterday morning. It is quite humbling to look about and see in the crowded class individuals both those surely unbalanced by LARGE amounts of abdominal fat and those hampered by serious physical handicaps nevertheless managing fairly well to emulate a stork. Hopefully I can report at least a little progress on this next week as well as in cutting down substantially on the times when I become confused about what I am supposed to be doing. I think this is surely an excellent activity to reduce klutziness--too bad I didn't get involved in it years and years ago.

Enough musings! It is getting late and I haven't finished reading the Book Club book and the Book Club meets tomorrow night. Dad sends his best to you and Scott, as do I and lots of hugs for the bunnies and kitties.
